This is a birthday gift I made recently. It was a special order for a very special little boy from a family friend - his loving grandmother.

The chicken quilt is big enough to be used by an adult, but it is also cheerful enough to be enjoyed by a kid. It is bright but not too energizing on the front with the blue and green around the happy chicken, while the orange back is just the perfect morning energizer.

I really had to add the bear, of course. I just love to add it!

The bear was my present for the boy to go along with the quilt and accompany the birthday present we bought for him.

And he liked both bear and quilt and even wrapped himself in it!

I told you I like quilting for kids. That is why! But it seems I forgot to mention I enjoy making bears for kids too.

I do enjoy making baby quilts.
Especially if it is a newborn baby gift.

This is the latest one - made for a small boy.

It was an order from a lady that found my web site and needed a quick and touching baby gift. I had a week to complete it and send it to her. It was quite a pressure along the other projects, but it was a baby quilt so it was also great pleasure for me to make it, pack it and send it.

В англоезичния свят съшитите три ката плат, свързани по между си с преминаващ през тях шев, се наричат “куилт”. За нас българите “килт” е по-лесното за изговаряне име. Наскоро няколко души приятно ме изненадаха като ме попитаха “Ти правиш пачуърк юрганчетата нали?” или пък благодариха за “юрганчето” за своето бебче.

На практика килта /куилта/ е модерния юрган - практичен и красив, топъл, но и лек. Не знаех, че и други го възприемат така и се зарадвах да го чуя.

Doll Quilt Swap quilt’s colors, fabrics, appearance and pieces are ready. They just need few hours with me and my machine to get ready.

I spent too much time on considering various options - mainly regarding fabric. I will mail abroad /which is not a secret as I am in Bulgaria/ and there is no way to get the kind of small prints in the colors I would like here if I want to stick to Bulgarian fabrics. Oh, I wish I had a quilt shop around!

This was quite a concern and it led to choosing solids - trying to achieve a fresh, simple and hopefully traditionally-contemporary look /as I obviously avoid to keep things simple about this swap/.

After the first really mixed feelings of what to choose and what my partner likes according to her blog, I decided to be really true to myself and make something I will happily hung in my house - almost minimalistic design and moderate quilting, with fresh appearance and in the colors I am almost in loved with lately.

Fabrics have been cut 5 minutes after the design plan was “approved”. One thing in which I was fast!

No sewing so far has taken place but pictures of the top will come shortly. Hopefully.

I have already mist a sewing day, despite of the urge to start, finish and wash the quilt right away. Well, sea water was just great today and we had a wonderful swimming experience.

I have completed a couple of baby and kids quilt made to order lately.
It is incredibly satisfying to make something for a wonderful boy or girl and imagine the happy kid and family /especially the kid/.

I was told one of the quilts was happily carried around the house by the kid during his birthday party.

I even had the chance to actually meet a kid I made a quilt for last year.
It is a great feeling to see the kid and receive his sweet hug. This makes me happy.

Another great thing about baby quilts, apart from being made for fabulous little persons, is the fact they are small scale projects and I see the result quickly. Maybe I will start a small scale projects routine. This makes me really productive. It also means sweet baby gift wraps which as an added bonus experience.

I finally made my mind on the color choice.
I gave up my favorite colors as they are really bright and this makes them difficult to match another person’s tastes and interior. I mean bright orange, neon green and similar. You see, they are not for just anybody’s favorite colors.

So it will be in the rainbow colors - the ones on the blog header. And because I will soon change the header, here they are again:

I hope my partner likes these colors. They seem to be safe as they are so universal. We will see…

The truth is I like them so much lately that I just could not resist them. Usually I am not in that type of soft, pastel and a kind of predictable colors. But it seems I am getting into a soft colors period.

Вчера имах щастието да видя едно прекрасно малко детенце и това ме наведе на размисли след многото емоции.
Слънчевите усмивки, изучаването на света и прекрасните мигове, които децата подаряват на всички покрай себе си са изумителни.

Всъщност това е може би и причината с такова удоволствие да изработвам подаръци за мъници. Те са чудесни сами по себе си, а радостта и емоциите им - подкупващо искрени.

Последните седмици уших няколко подаръци за бебета и малки деца и за пореден път установих, че често подаръка е приет много добре не само заради практическото си приложение и красотата си , но и заради това, че е уникален, ръчно направен и то специално за получателя. Read the rest of this entry »
