It was sent to a far away place. I think I never sent to somewhere else actually. Most places are far away anyway in swaps. I think swap mamas might have tried to make distant partners to make the package even more special. Holding something from the other side of the Earth feels special enough even without being a marvelous quilt.

I felt quite intimidated this round. My prather is a talented prson, whicjh was more than expectad in the swap participants company. However I have alway liked her creations a lot. Anxious to see if it will be liked. HOping it will be!

And anxious to receive the quilt made for me…

It is a magic, just like every other creative activity. Piece by piece and step by step the quilt appears.

It is difficult for me to say what makes it more special – watching the creative process or the fact the maker /that’s me/ takes part in it… Maybe the camera helps me take the most of both these miracles – by making pictures I am fully in the making, but I take short breaks to see the creation through someone elses eyes. Or something’s eye, while making pictures LOL. I then go back to the making and have a fresh new look at it. It is really refreshing and helps me not to stick to any idea or plan. Very liberating experience – shoots and then new mini start.

Sometimes the light is so brilliant or so subtle, that it changes the way the room and project look like. Like in this picture – the light coming through the patchwork top. It was a dark day before this magnificent warm light appeared at once. Just on time actually!

Than I was busy with the national holiday. March the 3rd is the National Holiday of Bulgaria, but we had a celebration that kept me busy on March 2nd… And I was in bed on March 3rd with a virus. Did I wrote DQSs tend to coincident with extremely busy periods?… yes, it is true! And it is not just the end of the mailing period… busy, busy, busy for a month…

Making this one was great pleasure. I machine pieced and quilted this time. Only one totally handmade thing – the labeling.

Hope my partner will like it. It will be in the mail on Monday. When I am back to normal.

It is what the big blocks became. I had it on my table for a week and my studio looked brighter and the light more brilliant.

I am sure not everyone will like it, as I am aware my perception for colour is a little wild. Making this top felt great. It was my first attempt in random piecing for a while, but just a single look at these lovely quilts, made me make one. I used scrap patches, left from other projects. I had a big fat pile of them in one of the secret chest drawers and sort them in different size boxes first.

They were not all rectangles, but I decided to make this a little bit ordered using the shape and cut them to rectangles. The funny thing was, that it looked too orderly to me and the most difficult part was to mix each block and the blocks together to achieve as random look as possible. Working with no plan or sketch is fun, but making it look like you want it to with all blocks random is not exctly piece of cake…

I will definitely make more. My kid wants one. My husband wants one. LOL I want one too. And one will not do for all of us…

No, its not my relative. It is a lady with a very special job similar to Santa Clause’s.

And here are some of the martenitzas we made on Sunday to give today. These are twisted white and red threads.

It is an old Bulgarian tradition wishing good health to people and cattle, by giving everyone a martenitza on March 1st. It is worn until the person sees a stork or other migrating bird. It is then tied on a flowering tree.

Decoration options are unlimited. The twists on the picture are just the base. Pompoms, tassels and bows are the simplest ones.
Well, it was not only because I loved the way it looked, but also the drape and colour, and softness… made me want to knit one.

So I started one a few days ago. It will be a big and heavy one – almost 250-300g, I think. But it will be warm.

I am knitting with two strands. This gives the fabric very interesting sheen and texture.

Here is one of the threads. The other is pure wool.
