Sunday Stash #34: RetroLatest additions to my stash – red and violet, beige and brown, gray and stripes.

No specific idea for them yet…

While the bold solids and the deco beige print are something I typically like, the monochromatic stripe is not exactly my type of prints. Still I liked it enough to buy it.

Knitting wool in the heat... Clapotis #1The heat here is unprecedented… almost 35C plus too much humidity to breathe easily and today sea water temperature is  above 31C… No one remembers something like this…

I am slowing down and then getting back to normal. Had a relaxing Saturday with my knits – Clapotis #1 is growing. It is the first time ever I name a knitting project “#1′ before I start the second one. There will be #2 for sure!

Knitting pure wool in this hot, hot weather felt strange at first but just normal after half an hour or so.

Hopefully back to sewing today.

Gail dryingThis one was all knitted in Jule-August 2009. it then waited for me to decide if I really want it this big… It is huge – around 2m width…  In October I considered it done and decided to block it just before wearing it for the first time.. sometime in summer 2010. Long story, isn’t it?

Well, I blocked it and wore it this August. It was a lovely addition to a thin-straps vivid turquoise dress and a special occasion. No pictures of this beauty on contrast background yet. I blocked it, surprisingly had it dried in less than three hours in a hot but extremely humid day and wore it a few hours later.

It proved to be comfy, eye-catching and just as warm as needed in a warm windy night.

July showerIt is sooooo hot here… I am dreaming of refreshing rain.. like the ones we had in June… though I know it will than lead to unbearable humidity again… The rain drops on the left are part of July shower.

It is hot! One feels like having a week in a much warmer place… The water – sea water- is really hot  – 30C. Noone thinks it was this warm before… And to make it scientific… no record available either – 27C is the highest level before 2010.

So I am having great fun swimming, diving, soaking, swimming, etc… Unexpected summer vacation in the middle of a hot, hot summer. The worse thing is the humidity. The air is so humid, people feel like melting… sweating, showering, swimming and starting again… until the evening breeze.

I am knitting now. No really active sewing these days, just some little projects or finishing jobs.

Sunday Stash #33: Lavender"

The latest addition to my stash. Bold print in subtle tones and black. The piece on the picture is a really generous fat quarter – it is a large scale print…

The subtle lavender on lavender and white flowers make it really special.

Scrappy Joy QuiltHere are the latest pictures of my spring-summer experiment – started in February and Finished in July. It will be in the shop today or tomorrow.

I was so happy with process, I am already saving scrapes for the next one. The only really bad thing about this type of quilt is you really need scraps. Since I have already used most of my scraps, I have to cut uncut fabric pieces to make scrappy quilt… Not than I am not able to do it LOL.

This makes me think my studio might prove to be a quite organized one… We have a tale here about a an old man who was looking for a tidy young woman to be his daughter in law.

Scrappy Joy QuiltHe sat on his cart all full with plums and shouted he was bartering plums for household waste. He than asked the girl with the hand-full of waste to marry his son. She even borrowed the waste from her neighbors as she had no at her house…

I am not at all that tidy or organized, I just use every bit of fabric I have. Love it too much to waste it. And I am now to pick an ordinary – notscrappy -  project or too to make, so I can accumulate some scraps … Makes me smile as I know most people just piece, quilt and than look for a project to utilize the scraps. Well I am crazy enough to do just the opposite – need “normal” projects to make some scraps, I need…

Sunday Stash #: Cartoon Print
I had a difficult weekend and even a difficult Friday before it.

So I forgot to take a picture of a fabric for the Sunday Stash… and I am now showing you a cartoon knit staying around for something…

I used it few years ago and have a new idea for a tiny part of it.

spider web for doll quilt swap 9It started few weeks ago and looks like one of the most beautiful rounds… As always!

I was quite unsure what to make, choosing design, pattern, fabrics, quilting type… whether to make it by hand, or machine piece and quilt it… All of these decisions are interesting, but I tend to be slow here. Especially if it is a swap thing. If it was for me, I would just grab the fabrics and start…

So after a month or so of falling in love with an idea and than new ideas for something quite different… I decided to give a try to something, I wished for for quite a long time – spider web. Then I saw some webs in the pool… Any way I am finally going for a spider web – the original plan. First choices usually work. Will see how it will be now… Jumping in the Doll Quilt Swap making magic now!

Doll Quilt Swap 8 receivedI received it in time. It was long ago. I realize now I have not shown it yet….

It is a stunning design in interesting colours, plus black and white. Did you notice the muttered border and the quilting? On a Whim made a lovely quilt!

I am still not able to find a place for it, as I have no such a contrast corner, which is a pity as it is gorgeous design with cute little baskets in aqua and green… I have an idea where it might fit soon, but in the meantime is just adored as part of my precious Doll Quilt collection.

The back is black on white little dots and the quilting is just lovely!

dqs8 back

At first I liked the back better as I felt a little ovewhelmed by the black on the front and who can not love this quilting… The picture does not show its beauty properly…

Thinking about this now and looking at this picture I see negative space, and the baskets are somehow washed-out, which adds interest in a special way.

This made me think about the way I design my quilts and how different it is from this one. So many new thing to try…

I might make it a white twin some day…
