More oranges... log cabin growing...Here is the orange invasion in my studio… Slow but inevitable – it covered the pink…

You can see how sweet it was in the beginning and now it gets definitely orange…

This is my first big log cabin project and I love it.

This is the first round in the whole project that looks like one colour all around. It is now though.. the yellows break the orange round a bit and I like this.

One round more and the block will be all pieced and ready…

All the blocks are ready now – 9 more than the ones shown here

orange-pink blocks for the log cabin quilt growingIt is a strange summer here – not as hot as usually, but way too humid to be normal… It rains almost every day. And sometimes it is storm, not rain… like yesterday and today…huricane wind, dark sky in 6pm, water that look like a curtain….

And look what I played with today – just between two storms… Happy orange strips… for the growing log cabin quilt

No special process thoughts here. I just followed my assistants ideas and added some yellows…

Log cabin patchwork blocks in blue and green doneLatest progress. Half of the blocks seem to be all pieced and ready. Will be sure when the other half reaches this stage too.

Starting with something crisp and making it washed out, disordered and vintage looking… twice! … was nice thing to do. LOL

New fabrics for second half blocks’ second stage are all cut and ready to be sewn too. Maybe tomorrow.

Sunday Stash #31: Various Greens
These are not new, not part of a special collection, not related, not special, but the fact thay are part of my newest project.

I was looking for at lest 8 fresh greens in various styles and shades and here is the selection.

I love it. Will sew it all together in the next couple of days.

I am really impressed by the way unexpected combos make the colours blend and shine.

log cabin patchwork growingHere is the latest progress – sewn yesterday and hopefully continued today…

Almost added a full round of whites on the orange centered blue blocks. Still unsure what will be the next round on the red-centered pink blocks.

The task board is already small for the blocks and since my design wall is not near the machine now…  I might start laying them on the floor or a table…

I like the variety in the whites – fourteen of them and some not white at all… The blocks is moving away from the modern look it had in the previous stage and metamorphosing towards a more vintage look.

Loved the way the previous stage looked and was unsure will it keep all of it beauty when I was to add the whites… Feeling the same way now – love this look and want a quilt like stage one, a quilt like stage two – this one… Might feel same way after stage three.. Hope so!

It was really interesting to randomly space 14 fabrics in different styles – 2 solids. modern graphics, vintage graphics, retro romantic flowers, whimsical kid prints, vintage flowers…

white strips for the log cabinI still have to add the final strips to the last two rows and it seems they will be distributed randomly enough among the blocks…

Keeping some rules and making them not obvious was my method and it worked well as always. I am not exactly ordered and rearranging till tired type of piecer… still logic makes good starts, and experiment adds interest, so choose a rule and stick to it creatively is usually my formula. Plus choosing the rule is usually not exactly the first step… LOL

Started to really love the Process Pledge! Button on the right!

Scrappy Joy Quilt before the washerBefore the washer.. no wrinkles yet, but still pretty.

It is washed and dried now and I love the final result.

Had not taken any pictures of the wrinkled quilt yet though – a dark gloomy day yesterday and busy, busy day today….

More about this Improv style experiment is blogged here and here.

I definitely see some more to come pretty soon. Just after this one.

new quilt growing in the studioI started a new quilt yesterday! It is a simple log cabin in Improv style. I really enjoyed making it so far. Look at it!

Here is how it appeared today strip by strip. The first picture below shows yesterday’s progress.

It went so fast today!

I pinned the blocks on my board. It is not a design wall but served as one today…

It is intentionally two part quilt – two different types of blocks – orange and red centers. They will not be arranged like this though, nor they will look like this when finished…

I  had an assistant and this made the piecing more interesting.

You can see the next colours to be added to this blocks below. Picked by my talented assistant of course!

In a week of showers and a day of even more showers, this felt just lovely!

Looking forward to sewing more tomorrow.

Sunday Stash #30: Surprise Fabrics
Another surprise stash addition. It was a lovely gift by Diónaea . Thank you!

These were accompanied by lots of beautiful extras. I see now I took a picture with some of the extras in – the top 3 in the pile plus the “Portugal” reading one – a tea towel.  They came here all the way form Portugal. The bottom one is IKEA fabric, I have not seen before. Hm, seems a need to make a new picture, which will happen on Monday, as I am not seeing this pile before.

No other interesting new fabrics here. I bought some, but I just restashed some old fabrics. Planning another restashing next week. Hopefully I will find something new then.

Scrappy Patchwork Joy by DomosharJust a few minutes before it’s officially all sewn and ready for its first wash. It has a long и long story – took me months to complete.

I made it in little lovely sessions spaced quite generously… It was hard to space them – found working on this one fantastic… I first waited for batting, then for backing, had to make some things in between…. Followed some strange but exciting dilemma solving pattern, you can read about here.

Attracted the binding this Friday in a hot, hot day with almost unbearable humidity and a tropical shower…

It needs some thread clipping, label and wash and will start looking for a baby to hug it.
