MartenitzaIt is March the 1st – the day Grandmother Marta comes and gives everyone a martenitza.

No, its not my relative. It is a lady with a very special job similar to Santa Clause’s.

And here are some of the martenitzas we made on Sunday to give today. These are  twisted white and red threads.

It is an old Bulgarian tradition wishing good health to people and cattle, by giving everyone a martenitza on March 1st. It is worn until the person sees a stork or other migrating bird. It is then tied on a flowering tree.

Decoration options are unlimited. The twists on the picture are just the base. Pompoms, tassels and bows are the simplest ones.

This is the last patchwork made in 2009.

A custom order for a table runner. Love the colours on it. It is Christmas like, but too much Christams in there. It could a nice Valentine or just a stylish red and white table addition.

I have made a few table runners with similar look – same pattern, different colours. This is the boldest. The contrast between red and and the whites is really strong and the red vivid. But the white/ecru combo softens it and adds style.

The back is burgundy deep red with ecru quilting on it.

More pictures on Flickr. A lot actually. I took 100+ pictures and changed most to “private” not to bother people on Flickr… The first time I do it.

The table runner will be added to my etsy shop as another custom table runner tomorrow.

Christmas one skein shawl Here is the Christmas shawl. Before blocking. But you will get a good idea of how it looks. Yes, it is better after blocking and it would be good to have some after blocking pictures… but I did not take any apart from the folded one here.

The weight is the thing I really love on this one  – it is approx. 50g. And it is warm too.

Knitting it was meditative activity – fast, easy to memorize, soft and great colour.

This is the fisrt really lacy shawl I made. It was soft and shapeless I was not sure it will block well, but it did block just perfect. More pictures on Flickr.

I am planning new projects with this yarn. Have not chosen the colour yet…

Happy New Year! Wishing you and your families lots of happy moments,

smiles, joy, health for everyone,

lots of successful days and calm happy evenings!

I hope we all have more time for our favorite things to do. I know how desperately we all need an extra hour a day for something special.

This is a card my kid made for Christmas.

Love the simple and elegant look. Hope the year is at least as beautiful as the card is.

We visited friends and come back home 10 mines before the new year had come. Just in time to watch the fireworks. It was beautiful!

And the kids had some great time together playing while we had a nice chat and I was hugging a baby girl.

Christmas ShawlI knitted this a few days before Christmas. Just enough before, to be able to finish, block, pack and give in time.

It was a nice fast and soft knit – simple pattern, elegant look, deep colour! It is so light and soft that I am seriously considering making at least three different ones for myself… Dreaming so far. I have lost of other things to do first LOL

My mom is happy with this one. So am I. The first thing I knitted for her! It was surprise. She likes the colour and the style. So I have no choice but be happy with it.

More pictures to be added soon.

Christmas Away

I was out of town for a few days. No computer, no internet, almost no phones, knitting, cooking, baking, walking, sleeping… well watching TV was the most technical modern thing I did,.. fresh warm bread from the oven, glasses of young wine, giggles and playing games…

No snow this year.  It was not good for looong, looong walks either. But just perfect for a warm, slow weekend with some wine and knitting. I did not even take a single picture though I had my camera and computer with me  -  no gadgets used, just phones to greet people.

I really needed a few days away. Preparing Christmas presents for my family and my customers made the previous few weeks really busy. Bad weather, driving in almost flooded streets, taking the bus when the streets were frozen… hectic days with impossible lists to finish each day…bringing almost whole my studio back in home for the holidays.. so can continue sewing… shopping for Christmas in stores crowded with hectic or /totally/ disorientated people… It was all before the few peaceful days, we spent  away. And I was delighted to see my e-mails is just OK. Working and not full.

Three business days left till the end of 2009.

Merry Christmas!I was away from my blog for a while. Preparing for Christmas, actively helping a pupil, sewing for my etsy shop, knitting…  I was really busy.

As Christmas is almost here, everything was cooked and baked, and almost eaten… less than 3 hours before Christmas… I am back to my blog.

I will take a short internet vacation for Christmas and will be back here in a few days.

Merry Christmas to you and your families!

PS My e-mail might not be working for a few days as the e-mail service will be on vacation.

Christmas Angel CardsPlanning to make some piles of these…

They were fantastic last year and decided to keep them the same this one too…

Is it too boring? Or traditional? I just love them so it does not really matter.

Especially as I know I made only a dozen last Christmas…and I have golden papers…

Lots of cutting to come…

Going to add them to my shop this week.

Added the first one today.

I had to admit that I have not sewn anything for this Christmas yet.

I have tried some ideas, sketched and tested… but I have nothing ready yet… Despite of starting making patterns in August…Yes, this picture of craft paper patterns in my kitchen was taken in August and I have only cut a few fabric pieces so far…

Today my studio received a new table. Not the one I wanted, but an old trusty stable table I like and I am planning some sewing pretty soon. With these same August patterns of course!

Wish me good luck. The flu school vacation was prolonged with one more week – the next one. Hopefully I will be sewing regularly despite of it. I am happy it took place actually, as it really helps keep children healthy and as the sun is shining, we have walks and play.. it is all okay..
