This is my first big log cabin project and I love it.

This is the first round in the whole project that looks like one colour all around. It is now though.. the yellows break the orange round a bit and I like this.

One round more and the block will be all pieced and ready…

All the blocks are ready now – 9 more than the ones shown here
It is a simple log cabin in Improv style. I really enjoyed making it so far. Look at it!

Here is how it appeared today strip by strip. The first picture below shows yesterday’s progress.

It went so fast today!

I pinned the blocks on my board. It is not a design wall but served as one today…

It is intentionally two part quilt – two different types of blocks – orange and red centers. They will not be arranged like this though, nor they will look like this when finished…

I had an assistant and this made the piecing more interesting.

You can see the next colours to be added to this blocks below. Picked by my talented assistant of course!

In a week of showers and a day of even more showers, this felt just lovely!

Looking forward to sewing more tomorrow.

I made it in little lovely sessions spaced quite generously… It was hard to space them – found working on this one fantastic… I first waited for batting, then for backing, had to make some things in between…. Followed some strange but exciting dilemma solving pattern, you can read about here.

Attracted the binding this Friday in a hot, hot day with almost unbearable humidity and a tropical shower…

It needs some thread clipping, label and wash and will start looking for a baby to hug it.

And my second process thoughts here.

I had some time wondering, choosing and not feeling sure how to quilt it. As far as it is a true Improv quilt – no plans, charts, sketches, swatches… just sewing patches sections and mixing them all together… I thought the quilting should follow this same manner – quilt as you go. Not in the technical sense, but quilting my present mood. Logically /my logic/ it called for straight lines or even wonky straight lines, or a complex all-over design, or curvy quilting based on the patches, or.. so many options…

Going back to the original strategy – make it totally Imrov… I just quilted flowers, as it is flowery prints quilt, bold patches and random layout and it just felt like meant to be quilted in flowers…

Great process thought isn’t it? Ignoring any plans and just letting it happen LOL

The next big question was the binding choice. It was unexpectedly easy to solve – took less than a minute. And was followed by 10 minutes checking different options today… before I decided I will stick to the first thought anyway. Which reminds me, the back fabric dilemma had exactly the same process and outcome…

I had to wash and cut the binding now. Getting closer to the washing/drying part…

A few words about inspiration. I have not quilted in a month or so and this felt really great! And for this quilt … I had been collecting patches for a project like this for quite a time when I joined the Project Improv. Started this quilt partly for the long planned quilt, partly unable to wait till I make a quilt like this.

I am about to start my Doll Quilt Swap 9 quilt and getting excited and inspired is one of the best parts in it.

Going to check all the inspiring blogs I am following this weekend and start it next week. Off to sketch the current most liked DQS plan now.

A moment of a tidy, ordered studio…

I try to be as organized as possible.

However making a quilt is so interesting and I am so anxious to get to and complete the next step… than often the tidying up just has to wait for awhile till I finish the sewing session…

This quilt is almost ready now.

We are now having a long weekend on the occasion of St George’s Day May 6th – 4 days weekend in May feels good. I will finish it right after its end.

Love the way the contrast and subtle blocks mix together. It is a wedding quilt and it makes it special.

I planned to make more and earlier to add in the shop way before Easter. Well, they are more spring, than Easter items, now.

I love the brights ans pastels mixed together in a simple functional table accessory.

Making more than one thing at a time makes creating even more rewarding. A pile of newly finished projects, even if it a mini pile of three, feels good.

Palm Sunday is coming and I am busy with some preparation for it.

They have a long history.
They started as a patchwork experiment almost 10 years ago. At this time the fabric was old enough for them to qualify for being made with vintage fabric now.

These little patchwork pieces were carefully stored until earlier this week. When I finally sewed into something and they are now pincushions. All finished, all little threads were clipped and they are waiting for their new owner.

I was not sure if adding them to the shop was the right decision or it was better to keep them. With so many pincushion I am using, I decided to add them to the shop.

I can happily state now I am happy with half of the swap and anxiously waiting for the other half – a post delivery. LOL

I can now show what I have made.

I already wrote it was fun to make this little quilty and I am waiting for some spare time to make more similar little ones.

This was my first quilt in this traditional pattern. Mixing classic patterns with modern fabrics is definitely my piece of quilting LOL. Love the mixing process!

Adding linen in this one was so beautiful detail too.
It was something from my partners’ likes and something I wanted to try for a long time. This is one of the best things in this lovely swap – trying new things!
