Log Cabins Growing....

Media_httpdomosharcom_hcbqh
Here is the latest progress - sewn yesterday and hopefully continued today... Almost added a full round of whites on the orange centered blue blocks. Still unsure what will be the next round on the red-centered pink blocks. The task board is already small for the blocks and since my design wall is not near the machine now...  I might start laying them on the floor or a table... I like the variety in the whites - fourteen of them and some not white at all... The blocks is moving away from the modern look it had in the previous stage and metamorphosing towards a more vintage look. Loved the way the previous stage looked and was unsure will it keep all of it beauty when I was to add the whites... Feeling the same way now - love this look and want a quilt like stage one, a quilt like stage two - this one... Might feel same way after stage three.. Hope so! It was really interesting to randomly space 14 fabrics in different styles - 2 solids. modern graphics, vintage graphics, retro romantic flowers, whimsical kid prints, vintage flowers...

I still have to add the final strips to the last two rows and it seems they will be distributed randomly enough among the blocks... Keeping some rules and making them not obvious was my method and it worked well as always. I am not exactly ordered and rearranging till tired type of piecer... still logic makes good starts, and experiment adds interest, so choose a rule and stick to it creatively is usually my formula. Plus choosing the rule is usually not exactly the first step... LOL Started to really love the Process Pledge! Button on the right!

Experimenting with colour and shape

Media_httpfarm4static_seiqe
A quilt I finished few days ago - shown before binding it here. I did not choose the colours and prints myself. It was interesting to work with someone else's choices. I really love the fabrics but they were all so bold... that I decided to make this little one as bold as possible. LOL. It is bold for sure and I experimented with quilting too as I really love the prints but they just did not match the open solid areas.. that is because I choose this very pattern - a result of my efforts to make disapering nine patch and show as much as possibl of the prints. I like it. Experimenting is fun. I hope I will have more time for experiments in March!

On My Desk Wednesday: Doll Quilt Swap Sewing

Media_httpdomosharcom_frlfu
Well, this is not my desk. But this is the most interesting activity today. The different fabrics, cut and ready to go into the top. I have several long lists to complete and I am happy this quilt is going on schedule so far. If it is liked by my partner.. than it will be a success. I decided to make something odd and I am anxious to see how it will be accepted. So I have to finish it fast to see. Today I almost finished the top and I like it. But that is only me. I like this odd, bright and not too stylish bunch of patches! So it is not a surprise to find out I like the top made of them, right?
