US National Quilting Day: March 20th

Happy Quilting Day to all my American quilting friends! As a Quiltsy Team member /on etsy/ I am taking part of this holiday too. My potholder is waiting for its new owner and the money will go directly to the Quiltsy team and help promote quilting and quilting artists on etsy. As part of the quilting promotion events a lovely article on The Storque is published. It is packed with information and beautiful quilts! I have to admit I am happy to see the quilt making process, illustrated in this article by a picture of my quilting in progress. It is an honor to have a picture of mine next to the ones of extremely talented etsians. I saw an item of mine featured there too. But all this personal feelings will be blogged later. Its quilting day in the US! If you are quilting - happy quilting!!! If you are not... why not give it a try? It is lovely experience! And it is addictive. Do thrust me.

Project Improv: Learn, Help and Have Fun!

Media_httpdomosharcom_awrch
Making quilts with no patterns and no limits is supposed to be fun! I will see now. I joined Project Improv and I am so happy I did. It will  be fun, it will be great learning experience and it will help people in need. Lovely! Most of the quilts I have made were designed by me. I did not follow any pattern for them, but still drew the design and calculated some measures then I cut the pieces in specific size according to the design drawing and some calculations. Even if I draw a sketch of the quilt to be I never decide which colour or print goes where before I start piecing. It is always play on the way /unless I really have to follow a pattern in a way/. So I will go a step ahead by using my ruler just as a cutting guide...

Experimenting with colour and shape

Media_httpfarm4static_seiqe
A quilt I finished few days ago - shown before binding it here. I did not choose the colours and prints myself. It was interesting to work with someone else's choices. I really love the fabrics but they were all so bold... that I decided to make this little one as bold as possible. LOL. It is bold for sure and I experimented with quilting too as I really love the prints but they just did not match the open solid areas.. that is because I choose this very pattern - a result of my efforts to make disapering nine patch and show as much as possibl of the prints. I like it. Experimenting is fun. I hope I will have more time for experiments in March!

Quilting by Hand: Slow Progress

Media_httpdomosharcom_adfwr
I am making some progress. I can not believe it, but it happens. I spend approximately an hour or two a week quilting it - tiny, tiny steps progress. That is why I can hardly believe I am making any progress at all - I hardly quilt it. The machine applique acts as quilt-as-you-go here and since I finished applique, approximately two years ago, this little quilt was stored. I decided to try hand quilting this summer and quilted the blue curves. I changed my needle somewhen in the middle and it turned out the first one was absolutely wrong choice. The new one allowed much more stitches per inch. This makes the whole quilting very "unique" as the stitches density is quite variable and getting higher. I even tried variegated thread, which also adds "uniqueness". Well, I like it and this is all that matters now. Hopefully it will be ready for Christmas.
