Gail's Story

Media_httpdomosharcom_ggobf
This one was all knitted in Jule-August 2009. it then waited for me to decide if I really want it this big... It is huge - around 2m width...  In October I considered it done and decided to block it just before wearing it for the first time.. sometime in summer 2010. Long story, isn't it? Well, I blocked it and wore it this August. It was a lovely addition to a thin-straps vivid turquoise dress and a special occasion. No pictures of this beauty on contrast background yet. I blocked it, surprisingly had it dried in less than three hours in a hot but extremely humid day and wore it a few hours later. It proved to be comfy, eye-catching and just as warm as needed in a warm windy night.

The Christmas Shawl

Here is the Christmas shawl. Before blocking. But you will get a good idea of how it looks. Yes, it is better after blocking and it would be good to have some after blocking pictures... but I did not take any apart from the folded one here. The weight is the thing I really love on this one  - it is approx. 50g. And it is warm too. Knitting it was meditative activity - fast, easy to memorize, soft and great colour. This is the fisrt really lacy shawl I made. It was soft and shapeless I was not sure it will block well, but it did block just perfect. More pictures on Flickr. I am planning new projects with this yarn. Have not chosen the colour yet...

My First Knitted Shawl

Media_httpfarm5static_ndkfk
Knitting for Christmas and finishing the second Christmas gift, I realized I have not showed my first shawl here. So here are some pictures of the shawl I knitted almost a year - knitted one skein end of winter 2009 and not able to find more yarn till November, than finished it in a few evenings. It is the first thing I ever blocked too! The two additional skeins are a little darker as eco wool - yes, it is pure wool -  varies a lot in colour and these were quite spaced in time... Recently I knitted a similar shawl for Mom.  And see more shawls to join them in the future too.  Knitting this one was so rewarding, that I started another similar one to0.

Knitting Again: New Balls of the Good Old Yarn

Media_httpfarm4static_jofid
I started a shawl last winter. It was supposed to be a one skein project. But it was not. And the worse thing was I had only one skein. And none of the shops around seemed to have a single skein.... so I had to store it.. because re-knitting it on bigger needles did not help enough. Today I received 3 new skeins and I just started knitting it again! Ordering from a distant shop was my last chance and it worked thanks to a lovely lady. Back to knitting now! Pure wool in blue feels good!

Knitting Progress!

The shawl is growing! I love the colour and the look of it is quite acceptable so far.. Thinking of some improvisations in the second part now... I started with tighter hands, I think as after unraveling it all, the new version is more airy and lacelike looking. Maybe I can block it lightly and still have airy shawl... I knit loosely - 7mm needles knit looks like 8-9mm
